Hoàng hôn tới rồi
bầy đom đóm thắp
miếu đền trong tôi.
The sun sets behind
fireflies are coming out
to light my internal shrine.

Giữa trận mưa giông
chú tiểu ôm chặt
cuốn kinh trong lòng.
The storm is rampaging
the novice monk hugs hard
onto the book of chanting.

Dưới vầng trăng thanh
hoá thành tượng đá
khuôn mặt tăng nhân.
Under pure moonlight
the face of the monk
became fossilised.

Bốn bề hư vô
một quả thông rụng
bên trên mặt hồ.
In a world of emptiness
a pine nut falls
on the lagoon’s surface.

Cuộc đời của ta
một cành mận gãy
vẫn còn đơm hoa.
 
My life’s a living
of a broken plum branch
still flowering.

Lá mùa thu rơi
như muốn chôn lấp
những giấc mộng đời.
 
Leaves of autumn fall
as if wanted to bury
the living dreams and all.

Cơn gió vô thường
sáng nay thổi đến
bụi hoa lệ đường.
The impermanent draft, windy
blowing through this morning
unsettling the Yamabuki .

Nhấp bát chè xanh
trong khu vườn vắng
trà mi lìa cành.
Sipping the green tea
in the deserted garden
camellia flowers fell free.

Chùa miếu hoang tàn
trên toà tháp cổ
quạ diều kêu vang.
In the dilapidated temple ground
on the old tiered tower
ravens with their echoed sound.

Mười năm du hành
sáng nay dừng lại
bên bờ nước xanh.
Ten years of wander
stopping by this morning
on the bank of blue water.
